Peterborough Phantoms BMX Club

Two riders from the Peterborough Phantoms BMX Club made the trip over to the USA to participate in "The Greatest Race on Earth". USA

The 483 motos, of the ABA Grand National, were rammed with some of the hottest BMX racing, and it lived up to all their expectations as Matt Allen and Arran Shrosbree experienced BMX racing American style!

Photographer and Grand’s veteran Billy Wright accompanied the two riders on the ten-day road trip. Along the way the trio made many good friends, as the locals appreciated “the limeys” visiting their state.

14X rider Arran Shrosbree, had a huge task ahead of him with 55 riders in his class and winner only transfer. Unfortunately the young man drew the short straw with a stacked moto, which included the current World Champion, the Redline Cup holder and the US NAG No1. A 2nd in one of his motos saw Arran just missed the cut, but the experience gave him plenty to savour from the day.

19+ rider Matt Allen, had better fortunes in his class with an excellent 2nd in his second moto and a transfer to the quarter finals. Not such a good start saw him at the back and at this level there was no way back. A bit of trademark showmanship saw Matt finish 7th.
